Air Force. Infant in danger of life transported from Cagliari to Milan

The newborn was embarked in a thermal cradle on a Falcon 900 of the 31 ° Stormo

On the first morning of Sunday 19 September, a Falcon 900 from the 31st Wing of the Italian Air Force carried out an emergency medical transport for a one-day-old child in need of urgent specialist care, from the Policlinico di Monserrato (CA) to the Policlino of San Donato (MI).

The emergency flight, requested by the Prefecture of Cagliari, was immediately arranged and coordinated by the Top Situation Room of the Air Squad Command, the operations room of the Air Force which also has among its tasks to activate and manage transport urgent health care, giving the order to take off to the aircraft that the Armed Force keeps ready, 24 hours a day, in various bases, for this kind of need.

The aircraft, which took off from Ciampino airport in the early hours of the morning, reached Cagliari airport in just over an hour. After boarding the little patient in a special thermal cradle, assisted by a medical team and accompanied by his father, the military jet immediately left for Milan Linate airport, where it landed at 8:40 am and from which - by ambulance - the child was transferred to the San Donato Milanese Polyclinic. The crew then left for the Ciampino base, to resume the operational readiness service.

Missions of this type cannot be separated from maximum timeliness, guaranteed by meticulous organization and well-established procedures. The Air Force Flight Departments are available to the community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with vehicles and crews capable of operating, even in complex weather conditions, to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent life-threatening, but also of organs for transplants, medical teams or ambulances.
