A Falcon 50 of the 31st Wing of the Italian Air Force landed in the afternoon, at Genoa airport, carrying a forty-five-day-old child for which emergency medical transport was required from the University Hospital of Sassari. , where he was hospitalized, at the Istituto Giannina Gaslini pediatric hospital in Genoa.

The emergency flight, requested by the Prefecture of Sassari, was immediately coordinated by the Summit Situation Room of the Air Squad Command, the operations room of the Air Force which has among its tasks also that of arranging and managing this type of missions through the activation of one of the aircraft that the Armed Force keeps ready, 24 hours a day, in various bases, for this kind of need.

The aircraft, which took off from Ciampino airport in the morning, reached Alghero (SS) airport in just over an hour. Once the little patient had boarded in a special thermal cradle, assisted by a medical team and accompanied by his mother, the military aircraft immediately departed for the Genoa airport, where it landed at 14:30 and from which - by ambulance - the child was transferred to the Gaslini hospital. The crew then left for the Ciampino base, to resume the operational readiness service.

Missions of this type cannot be separated from maximum timeliness, guaranteed by meticulous organization and well-established procedures. The Air Force Flight Departments are available to the community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with vehicles and crews capable of operating, even in complex weather conditions, to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent life-threatening, but also of organs for transplants, medical teams or ambulances.
