Aeronautica Militare: urgent flight to transfer a child in danger of life from Catania to Rome

The urgent medical transport was carried out with a Falcon 900 of the 31st Wing of the Italian Air Force

In the late morning of today, November 2, a crew of a Falcon 900 of the 31st Wing of the Italian Air Force took off to carry out an emergency medical transport, on the Catania - Ciampino route, to transfer a 7-year-old child in imminent danger of life.

The request for transport, as expected in these cases, was received by the Prefecture of Catania at the Situation Room at the Summit of the Air Squad Command, the operations room of the Air Force which has among its tasks that of arranging and managing this type of missions through the activation of one of the aircraft that the Armed Force keeps ready 24 hours a day, in various bases, for this kind of need.

The Falcon 900 took off from Ciampino airport, home of the 31 ° Stormo, towards Catania airport. Here the little patient was boarded, together with a doctor and his father, on the military aircraft which immediately left for Ciampino (RM). 

After landing at Ciampino airport, which took place at about 14 pm, the child was transferred by ambulance to be admitted to the Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital in Rome where he will receive the necessary medical care.

Such missions require the utmost timeliness.

The Air Force Flight Departments are available to the community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with vehicles and crews able to operate, even in complex weather conditions, to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger to life, but also to organs, medical teams or ambulances.
