Aeronautics, Sardinia: two emergency medical transports in a few hours

A man and a girl in imminent danger of life were transported from Sardinia to two different hospital facilities in Lombardy

Double life-saving intervention yesterday, 23 August, for the Air Force aircraft.

The first flight ended around 12:00 and allowed the urgent transport from Olbia to Milan of a 78-year-old senior, for whom a specialist intervention was required at the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan.

The request, as required by the emergency procedures for this type of transport, was received by the Prefecture of Nuoro at the Summit Situation Room of the Air Squad Command, the Air Force operations center that has control of the assets available for this type. of missions throughout the national territory.

For the man, suffering from a severe heart attack, it was decided to immediately transfer from the San Francesco Hospital in Nuoro, where he was hospitalized, to the Milanese hospital. The Summit Situation Room has therefore activated one of the aircraft of the Armed Force in operational readiness service 24 hours a day.

The aircraft, a Falcon 50 of the 31 ° Stormo, took off from the Ciampino military airport and arrived in Sardinia to embark the elderly and the medical team, and left for Milan to allow for subsequent transport to the hospital.

A few hours after the first aid, upon activation of the Prefecture of Cagliari, the second transport was also completed, this time in favor of a 3-year-old girl in need of urgent transfer from the University Hospital. of Cagliari at the Policlino San Donato Milanese. The little girl, accompanied by her parents and a medical team, arrived in Milan at around 20:30, was immediately transferred by ambulance to the Milanese hospital to receive the necessary specialist care.

Both missions were managed by the Situation Room of the Air Squad Command Room, the Armed Forces operational room which also deals with the coordination of this kind of missions in favor of the community.

The Falcon 50 is just one of the assets that the Italian Air Force maintains in operational readiness every day, 24 hours a day, to provide aid to the community. In fact, through its Flight Departments, the Air Force provides vehicles and crews ready to take off at any time and able to operate even in adverse weather conditions, to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of life, as happened today for the little patient, but also for organs and medical teams for transplants.

Hundreds of flight hours are carried out every year for this kind of intervention by the aircraft of the 31 ° Stormo of Ciampino, of the 14 ° Stormo of Pratica di Mare and of the 46a Air Brigade of Pisa.
