An almost centennial history in the service of the country that will be celebrated at Palazzo Aeronautica on Tuesday 30 March, together with the oath of the students of the Aeronautical Academy
Tomorrow, March 28, is the 98th anniversary of the establishment of the Air Force, officially born as an autonomous and independent Armed Force on the same day in 1923, with Royal Decree No. ancient military air forces of the world, would have taken place a few months later, on November 645, on the historic Roman airport of Centocelle, the cradle of flight in Italy, when the War Flag was handed over to its first Commander General, ace and medal of gold Pier Ruggero Piccio.
For the special anniversary, all the War Flags and Flags of the Stormi Institute, Departments and Bodies of the Air Force, symbols of the traditions and values of these 98 years of history, together with the historic banner of 1923, will be exceptionally brought together for the occasion. at the "Sala degli Eroi" of the Palazzo dell'Aeronautica, in Rome, which this year marks the 90th anniversary of the official inauguration, as it happened in April 1937, on the eve of the delivery of the flags to the Regia's Wing Aeronautics.
The 98th Anniversary will be celebrated on the morning of Tuesday 30 March at Palazzo Aeronautica during an event in a reduced and contained form and in full compliance with the anti-Covid rules, in which the Oath and Baptism of Corso Borea VI of the 'Air Force Academy of Pozzuoli, a formal and mandatory act with which every soldier swears loyalty and assumes a formal commitment to the flag, the homeland and the democratic institutions of the country. A particularly significant concomitance of events, and strongly desired by the leaders of the Armed Force, to seal the continuity of that heritage of values, passion and identity, today more than ever essential to contribute together with other civil and military institutions to national and community security , while expressing all the capabilities of aero-space power in support of the country's military instrument. The overflight of the Frecce Tricolori, which represent the different and varied skills and operational capabilities of the Air Force, will sanction the entry of the students into the Armed Force, at the solemn moment of the oath. The National Aerobatic Team will symbolically hold the young students in a suggestive and warm Italian hug, testifying the closeness of all the Air Force personnel in such a special moment for the country.
On the occasion of the anniversary, the lighting of the votive lamp placed in the center of the Lapidary of Palazzo Aeronautica, a monument to the Fallen of the Armed Force, will honor the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for their homeland. The anniversary will, as usual, also be the occasion for the delivery of decorations to the Air Force personnel who in the recent past have distinguished themselves for acts of exceptional courage and valor carried out during operational missions in Italy and abroad.
