Somalia, four victims during an air strike

An air strike near the Somali city of Afgoye killed four people. A relative of one of the victims reported today.

The attacks against Islamic militants in the Horn of Africa, often carried out by the United States, have helped to strengthen the central government of Somalia supported by the UN.

Relatives of the victims reported that Abdiqadir Nur, an employee of the telecommunications firm Hormuud Telecom, and three others died at 01:30 GMT as they passed through the village of Laanta Buuro in the southwestern region of Lower Shabelle, 45 km away ( 28 miles) from the capital Mogadishu.

US Africa Command (AFRICOM) with an email sent to Reuters, stated that it had carried out the attack and of the victims: “We are aware of reports of civilian casualties resulting from this air attack. The US Africa Command will review all information it possesses on the incident, including pertinent information provided by third parties.

Al Shabaab, which wants to impose strict Islamic law in Somalia, was driven out of Mogadishu in the 2011, but maintains a strong presence in the southern and central parts of Somalia.
