The G20 summit in Bali is underway

The G20 in Bali which opens its work today among the various curiosities marks the presence of only 4 women out of 41 participating countries. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni she is the only one to hold the position of head of government. The other women present are the president of the EU Commission Ursula von der Leyen the managing director of the International Monetary Fund Kristalina Georgieva and the World Trade Organization (WTO) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

A vertex of two days which will be characterized by the absence of the Russian president Vladimir Putin, officially motivated by agenda problems. Among the great world leaders, the outgoing Brazilian president will also be missing Jair Bolsonaro, just defeated in the elections by Lula.

The Bali summit will deal with a series of very "hot" dossiers: global financial instability and a looming recession, world hunger exacerbated by the conflict on Europe's doorstep, growing tensions in Asia, the fight against climate change, the social networks triggered by the pandemic. A G20 among the most complex in the 14 years of life of a multilateral institution that in Indonesia will have to seek confirmation of the reasons for its existence and find the antidote to new risks, Sri Lanka's dramatic default is still an open wound.

Meloni's first words

Thus Meloni in his speech at the summit: "When Indonesia assumed the G20 Presidency it was impossible to predict that Russia would invade Ukraine and the devastating impact this would have on the world order and on our economies.".

"To succeed in its mission, the G20 must have the courage to confront the most difficult challenges on the agenda, starting with the consequences of the Ukrainian conflict in the economic, energy and food fields which are investing everyone and are undoubtedly affecting the countries predominantly developing". "President widodo – he then added addressing the Indonesian president -, last year in Rome no one would have thought it would come to this, with the war, the food crisis and the energy emergency. But we didn't let anyone intimidate us.” “We fought back and continued to work together. Not only on energy and food, but also on many other challenges: environmental protection, the fight against climate change, more efficient infrastructures, quality education, health care for all. Future generations deserve a better world and we all have a duty to work in this direction".
"Italy, together with the EU – he concluded -, is intervening to deal with the disproportionate and disproportionate growth in energy prices, to increase national production and accelerate the diversification of supply sources".

The Italian prime minister traveled 16 hours on a flight operated by theItalian Air Force with one of its Airbuses under the 31st Wing of Ciampino (Rome). Meloni today will meet the president of the United States, Joe Biden and tomorrow she will see the president of China, Xi Jinping.

Among the officials of the Italian delegation there is also little Geneva, the daughter of the premier. This is the first time in history that a little girl follows an Italian head of government.

During the flight from Rome, President Mattarella heard from French President Macron to defuse the story of migrants which has generated an unpleasant diplomatic crisis between the two countries. It's time to tone down the tone and it seems that this is the message sent to the representatives of the executives of the two European countries

Bali is the ideal place where Macron and Meloni, on the sidelines of formal meetings, could put a tombstone on the unpleasant diplomatic affair, seeking a rapprochement above all to deal with the issue of migrants in a shared way.

Today the bilateral meeting with the American president where topics such as Ukraine, the energy crisis and China will be discussed. It is predictable, writes Corsera, that Biden will ask Meloni for more guarantees than in the recent past on our relations with Beijing. It is almost certain that the Prime Minister will express the wish to be able to work together to lower the prices of American liquid gas that we currently import. In addition to Biden, Meloni will see Turkish President Erdogan and Indonesian President Joko Widodo, while tomorrow it will be the turn of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Canadian Prime Minister Justin 'IYudeau, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
