Angelino Alfano, Foreign Minister, at the end of yesterday's meeting held in London with his counterparts from the United Kingdom, USA, France, the Emirates and Egypt, reiterated that too many mediations in Libya do not produce any results, on the contrary, it is necessary that the action of the UN special envoy is legitimized by all countries. The minister underlined that Italy intends to follow this line. The position of Italy has received "substantially the agreement of all".
For Alfano, strengthening the UN would avoid not favoring "those in Libya who want separate talks with each individual country in order to get the best for themselves".
The London meeting coincided with the Security Council's approval of the one-year renewal of the Unsmil mission in Libya. The resolution contains a paragraph that underlines the central role of the UN in the country's future.
