Arrested those responsible for the theft at the Moscati Hospital in Avellino

Avellino: the State Police identifies and arrests two of the perpetrators of the theft at the Moscati Hospital in Avellino oncological medicines worth about 1.300.000,00 euros

The State Police of Avellino carried out an order for precautionary custody in prison, issued by the GIP at the Court of Avellino, at the request of the local Public Prosecutor's office, against two multi-prejudiced subjects, from Naples, responsible for crimes against property.

The precautionary measure, carried out in collaboration with the policemen of the Naples Mobile Squad, is the result of an investigative activity, which began following the theft of oncological medicines, for a value of over 1.300.000 euros, perpetrated by 4 subjects , in February 2019, at the pharmacy of the “San Giuseppe Moscati” Hospital in Avellino.

The complex analysis of telephone traffic, together with the fingerprints taken on some plastic bags abandoned inside the pharmacy, as well as the extrapolation of DNA from blood traces left by criminals on a broken window in order to access the premises, have allowed to identify part of the criminal group responsible for the theft

The rapidity in the execution of the blow immediately highlighted that the group of criminals constituted an expert team in strong harmony, also evidenced by the documented fact that the criminals had carried out an inspection two days before the theft.

Furthermore, the meticulous planning had led the police to believe that the stolen goods already had a fence ready to buy it and then market it on the foreign market.

Further investigations are underway in order to identify the other two members of the criminal association.
