Aeronautica Militare at the service of the community: double intervention in the middle of the night

Last night the Air Force carried out two interventions to transport two women in imminent danger of life.

The FALCON 50 ETD and C 130 J airplanes got up in the middle of this night in favor, respectively, of a woman of 60 years awaiting cardiac transplantation and a woman of 25 years suffering from cystic fibrosis with heart failure.

The first request came from the Prefecture of Chieti to the Summit Situation Room of the Air Squad Command which deals with the coordination and management of this kind of missions in favor of the community. The FALCON 50 of the 31 ° Stormo di Ciampino, which arrived in Pescara to embark the woman in need of care, took off at one in the morning and landed in Milan Linate an hour later. Once in Milan, the patient was transported to the Niguarda Ca 'Granda hospital to receive the required treatment.

The second request, coming from the Prefecture of Bari, involved a patient who needed transport by ambulance, which was why the Operative Room of the 46esima Air Brigade of Pisa was alerted where a C-130 J, a 46esima stationed aircraft the only carrier able to ensure this type of air transport, he got up in flight and arrived at the Policlinico di Bari at 02.45. Embarked the ambulance in which there were the patient and the medical team, then the aircraft landed at 04: 45 in Turin. From here the ambulance was able to reach the "Le Molinette" Hospital in Turin to subject the patient to the necessary treatment.

Missions of this type need maximum timeliness. Through its flight departments, the Air Force provides vehicles and crews ready to take off at any time and able to operate in any weather conditions to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of life, but also of organs, medical teams or ambulances, as happened tonight.

Every year thousands of flight times are carried out by the 31 ° Stormo of Ciampino, the 14 ° Stormo di Pratica di Mare and the 46a Air Brigade of Pisa, ready 365 days a year, 24 hours on 24, to take off very quickly time for any destination in Italy and abroad at the request of Hospitals, Prefectures and, in the case of missions abroad, of diplomatic representations.
