Aeronautics: urgent transport for newborn babies in imminent danger of life from Verona to Rome

A C130J of the 46 ^ Air Brigade of the Italian Air Force engaged in an urgent medical flight in favor of a two-week-old child
Around 4:00 this morning, Friday 07 December, a newborn of only two weeks of age and in serious health conditions was transported with the utmost urgency from Verona to Rome, to receive specialist care at the Bambino Gesù Hospital.
The child, admitted to the "Borgo Trento" AOU in Verona, needed to be transported on board an ECMO (Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation) ambulance, which was the reason why the transport was carried out by a C130J from 46 ^ Pisa Air Brigade, an aircraft capable of embarking also the medical vehicle.
As required by national procedures, the request for urgent medical transport was received by the Prefecture of Verona at the Top Situation Room of the Air Squad Command, the operations room of the Air Force which has among its tasks that of organizing and managing medical transport for IPV throughout the national territory.
To be embarked on the C130J, even an automedica and the medical team of the Bambino Gesù Hospital.
The ambulance flight, one of the services that the Italian Air Force ensures for the community, requires maximum timeliness and an active system 365 days a year. Through its flight departments, the Air Force provides vehicles and crews ready at any time to take off in a very short time, able to operate in adverse weather conditions and capable of embarking specific health equipment, such as thermal cots, or, as happened today, an ambulance.
