Brescia. Attack at the Brescia Police Academy

The State Police carries out a precautionary custody order in prison

The State Police of Brescia today carried out a precautionary custody order in prison, issued by the GIP of Brescia, at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office, against a prominent militant in the anarcho-insurrectionist area, as he was deemed responsible for the explosive attack perpetrated on the night of 18 December 2015 against the Brescia Police Academy (POL.GAI).

The aforementioned, following the complex investigations coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Brescia and carried out by the local DIGOS and by the Central Directorate of the Prevention Police - UCIGOS Service for the fight against Extremism and Internal Terrorism, is accused of having acted in complicity with others, with the aim of terrorism and in order to damage the headquarters of the Brescia Police Academy as well as to attack public safety. In particular, the suspect is accused of having prepared and placed near the main entrance of POLGAI, a deadly explosive device, composed of a casing consisting of a pressure cooker, filled with hydrocarbon and gunpowder, connected to an activation with a trigger consisting of a slow-burning, artisanal type fuse.

In the days following the serious criminal episode, numerous writings about the attack were found on anarchist sites, as well as claiming responsibility for the act. Faced with this evidence, due to the modus operandi and the targeted target, the investigations were immediately oriented towards anarchist environments.

The claim published on anarchist sites on 4 January 2016 was signed by “Cellula anarchica acca (CAA)”; the authors defined the attack on the Brescia Police Academy as a response "to the call for a BLACK DECEMBER", in reference to the "action campaign that will be the detonator of the anarchist insurrection, inside and outside the prisons."

In the name of the campaign in question, several attacks have been carried out since 2014 in Italy, Greece, Mexico, Chile, Brazil and Germany with the aim, among other things, of expressing solidarity with the detained comrades.

Among these, as expressly indicated in the claim, Alfredo Cospito and Nicola Gai are mentioned as well as some well-known foreign anarchists.

The painstaking textual analysis of the claim therefore made it possible to attribute the writing to the aforementioned anarcho-insurrectionist who was the recipient of the ordinance, based on the vocabulary and semantics identified. In particular, the claim contained an exhortation to violence and direct and armed action against the State which resulted in the attacks on the headquarters of the League in Villorba and on the police school in Brescia.

Given the seriousness of the fact, the State Police and in particular the DIGOS of Brescia, with the support of the Central Directorate of the Prevention Police, gave new impetus to investigative activities also in light of the evolution of investigation techniques.

In addition to the believed linkage of the claim to today's suspect, the acquisition of further circumstantial elements during the evidentiary incident, highlighted in a technical report prepared by the Scientific Police Service on the remains of that device, proved to be decisive, which highlighted the presence of traces useful for investigations.

The meticulous analysis of the finds, collected and kept since the date of the attack, made it possible to find on one of them, or on a part of the backpack with which the bomb was placed, a mixed genetic profile for which a judgment of compatibility with that belonging to the anarchist was affirmed.

In light of these acquisitions, the DIGOS of Brescia has given the District Attorney's Office a renewed and relevant investigative framework, which summarizes the results of the investigations into the suspect; in light of the complex evidence shared, the Judicial Authority has made a request for a precautionary measure in prison against the aforementioned, currently detained for another reason, in particular for the attack at the headquarters of the League in Villorba (TV), on 16.8.2018 .XNUMX, for which the anarchist in question was convicted with a sentence confirmed by the Court of Appeal of Venice.

It is stated that the principle of presumption of innocence applies and the responsibility of the persons subjected to investigation will be definitively ascertained only if an irrevocable sentence of conviction occurs.
