The Carabinieri Historical Carousel is an ancient tradition of the force that dates back to 1883, when it was performed for the first time in a barracks in Rome. Originally, these maneuvers had a training function: they allowed the mounted Carabinieri to exercise as a team and to perfect their coordination and discipline. Today, the Carousel is a symbol that represents the values of loyalty and dedication of the Carabinieri, keeping alive a historic and fascinating tradition that continues to attract young and old.
The Carabinieri Historical Carousel is one of the most prestigious and symbolic events of the force, born at the end of the 19th century as a training exercise for the mounted Carabinieri. Although the historical uniforms are no longer worn, the tradition is still considered "historical" for its figures and for the military significance that recalls the tactics used in battle. During the Carousel, the knights alternate between closed and scattered orders, adapting to the terrain as in combat, performing sudden stops, trotting and galloping, until the final charge. This last moment recalls the historic battle of Pastrengo and the fury of the cavalry, which still fascinates spectators today with glittering sabres and quivering horses.
The Carosello has become known throughout the world: in 1953 it performed at the World Horse Riding Championship in Paris, where the synchrony of its movements and the imagination of its evolutions were greatly appreciated. In 1958, the Carosello paraded through the streets of Brussels during the Universal Exhibition and, later, performed in many other European capitals. In 1980, in honor of Queen Elizabeth II visiting Rome, a design was composed in Piazza di Siena that recalled the English flag, a tribute particularly appreciated by the English royals.
The Carosello dei Carabinieri has performed in many Italian cities and abroad, consolidating its fame as a symbol of discipline and pride. With the participation of the regimental fanfare and the band of the Carabinieri, its spectacular figures are renewed at each performance, keeping alive a tradition that is, at the same time, an expression of Italian chivalry and a tribute to the Carabinieri.
The arena of Colleferro Castle offers an ideal setting for the Carosello, which is not only a spectacular event, but a true tribute to the history and community of Colleferro. Citizens will have the opportunity to admire a centuries-old tradition up close and to reflect on the values of the Carabinieri: honor, sacrifice and protection. The event is a symbol of the deep bond between the institutions and the city, a way to remember the importance of solidarity and local identity.
