Carpineto Romano: reported for illegal wood cutting

The Carabinieri of the Carpineto Romano Station, assisted by those of the local Carabinieri Forestry Unit, have reported at large a 53-year-old and a 28-year-old from the province of Latina, seriously suspected of aggravated theft in competition of trunk trees.

The aforementioned were surprised by the military while they were busy transporting the trees, recently cut down, on a car and on 3 mules used by both.

The subsequent personal and vehicle search led to the discovery of cutting tools (chainsaws), hidden in the vehicle, and wood, consisting of 20 tall-stemmed plants, such as holm oaks, weighing approximately 20 quintals.

The wood was returned to the owner of the land, while the vehicle and animals used to commit the crime were seized.

Both individuals were charged with aggravated theft in competition.

It is important to point out that, given the state of the proceedings, the defendants must be considered innocent until a final sentence is reached.

The Carabinieri's synergic operation is part of a broader prevention device aimed at combating illegal and reckless cutting of forests and for this reason it will continue in the coming days and will also be extended to the neighboring municipalities of Montelanico, Gorga, Gavignano. Segni and Colleferro.
