High noon, Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte went up to the Quirinale to formalize the resignation of the Head of State. The crisis since yesterday, therefore, passes into the hands of the President who will already call the parties to Colle to see if there is room for a new executive, always led by Giuseppe Conte. A Conte ter with a solid majority and with a legislative program shared “in toto” between the forces of the new majority force. These are the essential conditions on which the decision of the Quirinale will rest.

In the evening Giuseppe Conte launched the latest appeal on Fb: "This morning I called a Council of Ministers to communicate my intention to resign. Shortly after I went to the Quirinale to resign in the hands of President Mattarella. Last week, in Parliament, the Government gained confidence in both Houses, obtaining an absolute majority in the Chamber of Deputies and a relative majority in the Senate. The country, however, is going through a very difficult time. For a year now we have been going through a phase of real emergency. The widespread suffering of citizens, deep social hardship and economic hardship require a clear perspective and a government that has a larger and more secure majority. It is therefore time for the voices that have the fate of the Republic at heart to emerge in Parliament. My resignation is at the service of this possibility: lto the formation of a new government that offers a prospect of national salvation. We need an alliance, in the forms in which it will be possible otherwise realize, with clear pro-European loyalty, able to implement the decisions they press, to approve a proportional electoral reform and institutional and constitutional reforms, such as constructive distrust, which guarantee pluralism of representation together with greater stability of the political system. This matters. May our country get up quickly and put the pandemic and the tragedies it has caused behind it, in order to make our nation shine in the fullness of its beauty. For my part, even in these hours I will continue to carry out current affairs until the new government takes office. I will continue to carry out my service to the country, with a sense of responsibility and with deep commitment. These are the characteristics that have characterized my work, that of the entire government and of the majority forces that supported us, even when the results achieved and the answers given did not appear to meet the expectations of citizens. The only thing that really matters, beyond who will be called to lead Italy, is that the Republic can raise its head. Then we will all have won, because Italy will have won. As for me, you will always find me, strong and passionate, cheering for our country ”.

Today there is the Day of Remembrance to be honored, which falls on January 27, and therefore the consultations can only start in the afternoon and they will go on until Friday evening. Three days to continue the incessant hunt for the willing, that is to say that group of managers who should support a new team at Palazzo Chigi and which would make Conte, but also the Dems and the M5s, less exposed to the moves of Matteo Renzi.

The groups of Italy Viva they will meet at the end of the first day of consultations but in the meantime the former undersecretary Ivan Scalfarotto records a distancing from Giuseppe Conte: "When Iv goes to talk with Mattarella "he won't make a name", he says; but Iv will not even be clouded by "prejudices", Renzi later writes in his e-news, arguing the need for "a legislative and pro-European government".

The former grillino Gregorio De Falco asks to be able to create a group that refers to the Democratic Center of Bruno Tabacci: "We are about ten ", lets know, but then we understand that these are not additional names and therefore would not change much for the purposes of counting. The difference would be that the new group could probably participate in the consultations.

Yesterday at nine in the morning Conte had called the last Council of Ministers before going up to the Quirinale, an act due to the ministers of his executive. In the high assembly he claimed the pride with which he and his people "served" the country in such a dramatic moment as that of the pandemic: "we can all stand tall“He said looking them in the eye. It followed in thunderous applause. Words are all supportive, Franceschini but also Bonafede promise to be "compact around its name". Even if in the evening the group leader Dem Andrew Marcucci, writes the Ansa, it is less clear: "There is no Count at all costs: it is common sense - he says when asked by reporters - which guides us today in that direction". Yes, because the fear of the next few hours is always the same: what has opened is a crisis in the dark and there is no certainty that Mattarella will be able to re-appoint the Prime Minister. The Pd-M5s-LeU alliance that allowed the birth of the government 17 months ago can also have a breath of "perspective", warns Dario Franceschini. Il Nazareno takes 24 hours to reunite the Management: the appointment is for 14 pm on Wednesday but in the meantime through the vice president Deborah Serracchiani rejects accusations of underground designs: the name of Conte is “essential”, is reiterated. Al Conte ter does not seem to be willing to open but the center-right, which despite being marked by the distinctions, convenes a summit with the three leaders to announce that the Colle will climb united. Forza Italia is not exactly in tune and continues to say that it is available to a government of national unity while FdI is betting on elections and the League says no to "messed up executives".

Only the wisdom of our President of the Republic can untie the knots of the tangled skein.

Chronicle of an announced crisis, now we are in the hands of Mattarella
