With Versalis Revive® new life for recycled plastic

As part of Eni's strategy for energy transition and sustainable development, Versalis Revive® is born, a line of recycled plastic products. Developed in the research laboratories of Versalis, the first range of these products with different polymeric bases, styrene and polyethylene, will be presented at the K fair in Düsseldorf.

Versalis Revive® EPS is an expandable polystyrene containing recycled raw material supplied by the Italian domestic separate waste collection circuit, which includes glasses, trays and polystyrene yogurt cups. The project is realized with the collaboration of Corepla (National Consortium for the Collection, Recycling and Recovery of Plastic Packaging) and the finished product, which will be marketed from November, can be transformed into the same applications as the virgin product: insulating panels for energy saving in building or protective packaging of appliances and furniture. Other initiatives are under development, with the aim of reaching a production capacity of over 20.000 tons / year of styrene products containing recycled materials.

Versalis Revive® PE, on the other hand, includes low and high density polyethylene based compounds, containing up to 75% of urban post-consumer plastic, mainly from recycled packaging. These products guarantee performance that can meet the needs in multiple applications, in particular in the agricultural sector for drip irrigation and in the packaging sector even for small containers up to 5 liters, and are also suitable for covering film applications such as bags for industrial products or mineral water packaging. These products have been developed in collaboration between the Versalis Research Center in Mantua and Montello SpA, a leading operator in Europe in plastic recovery and recycling technologies, where the production of the range takes place. Versalis Revive® PE will soon be extended to new products that research is developing.

This new product line confirms Versalis' commitment to the circular economy as a pillar of Eni's strategy for a low-carbon future: not to waste and, even better, to give new life to plastic waste through re-use and recycling is fundamental to guarantee a better future for the planet.
