The long-awaited marketing authorization for the vaccine has arrived. The European drug agency has in fact kicked off the marketing of Pfizer-BioNTech's anti-Covid vaccine in individuals over 16 years of age.

It is in fact an approval "conditioning”, As the drug is not recommended for children under 16. After the rigorous checks carried out during the numerous tests, the side effects were scarce and also did not show any evidence of ineffectiveness against the coronavirus variant.

"We can guarantee EU citizens the safety and efficacy of this vaccine that meets the necessary quality standards," said EMA director Emer Cooke.

A few hours later, the president of the Commission Ursula von der Leyen also announced the go-ahead for the EU executive to start distribution, confirming the date of December 27 for the first vaccinations.

Optimism was also expressed by Health Minister Roberto Speranza who declared "this is the news we were waiting for".

The prophylaxis campaign in Italy will start as early as December 27th as already announced by Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.
