A “Taranto yard” is needed to define a strategic plan. With a letter to the newspaper “La Repubblica”, Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte appeals to all ministers to find a solution on the former Ilva. "During my recent visit to Taranto - writes the premier -, I was able to see how the story of the former Ilva industrial plant constitutes only one aspect, albeit of absolute importance, of a more general emergency situation in which the city and its population find themselves . The relaunch of the entire area requires a global and long-term approach. Politics must take on the responsibility of dealing with a complex challenge, which involves primary values of constitutional rank, such as work, health and the environment, all deserving of maximum protection, without the defense of one being able to sacrifice the others. For this reason, I believe it is necessary to open a 'Taranto construction site', within which to define a strategic plan, which offers refreshment to the wounded community and which, for the revitalization of the territory, puts in place all the useful tools to attract investments, promote 'occupation and start environmental reconversion ”.
To this end, Conte continues, "in view of the next Council of Ministers on Thursday 14 November, I invite you, within the scope of your dicastery, to elaborate and, if you are in the condition, to present proposals, projects, regulatory specific measures on which to initiate an initial exchange of ideas at that time. The discussion can then continue within the control room that I intend to set up with the aim of reaching, as a matter of urgency, equitable and sustainable solutions. In this regard, I anticipate that the Minister of Defense, Lorenzo Guerini, communicated to me the intention to promote an organic intervention for the relaunch of the Arsenale, while the Minister for Innovation, Paola Pisano, represented the desire to realize a far-reaching project, so that Taranto can become the first fully digitized Italian city ”, he concludes.
