Coronavirus: "The Festival of lies, a race for those who lied the most"

(by John Blackeye) The Festival of lies began at the beginning of the year and, apart from Italy and Spain, there are many of those registered for the competition who shoots it the biggest.

Taking advantage of the general confusion, fear and emergency, the Chinese giant entrenched himself behind his great wall and occasionally looks out to say that everything is fine. It would be no wonder that in a couple of months the Chinese president came to this other part of the world asking, almost amazed, what happened in the meantime.

Struck in the heart of its economy which at the beginning of the epidemic saw "Chinese" trade stop in all the cities of the world, China immediately ran for cover, transforming a health emergency into an economic emergency. Probably in that immense land of the dragon, human life must be worth zero and then they minimized the phenomenon and probably tarred the data, given that the numbers of the epidemic that are formally provided to us seem unrealistic and also sound like a hoax.

Italy, however, has recorded 115000 infections and almost fourteen thousand deaths to date. How is it possible that a geographical area like the Chinese one that has more than a billion population and that already at the beginning of the year could register infected in the largest cities of the country, could have stopped the infection, stopping the peak of the infected at just over eighty thousand subjects and recording the modest figure, so to speak, of course, of just over three thousand deaths in a boundless country like that? Yet the virus does not distinguish races and latitudes but affects all equally.

But on the other side of the Chinese borders who can ever say what happened? Who knows? Who can control? And so the coronavirus epidemic in China ended by state order. And who has seen has seen.

Let's make these numbers feel good because there won't be others. In fact, the icing on the cake of the faucet news is given to us by the Chinese who want us to believe that the latest infections they have recorded are those brought by people who come from outside. And here Totò would have started with a very warm: "But do me the pleasure".

Meanwhile, they have saved the state economy, turning the spotlight on all the other parts of the world that are facing the virus in recent days. Maybe thousands of deaths a day will also occur in China, like Italy, but now they believe they are so out of the problem that they allow themselves the luxury of sending teams of health experts and humanitarian aid around the world. And we waiting for them with open arms at the airports as if they had brought salvation, with all the news to immortalize the landing of the planes loaded with nothing, when the evil, let's not forget, brought it to the world.

La Germany it is no exception. The Teutonic people made themselves ready to meet the pandemic. At least so it seems. Even the Germans have not revealed their elixir of long life to us, because that is the case, if compared to the eighty-one thousand infected, a few hundred less than China, to date, have recorded only nine hundred ninety-seven dead. And according to these statistics, in Germany, the mortality rate would have dropped significantly below the Chinese one. Here too the economy is safe but the truth is trampled on.

La Francia, instead, which is geographically squeezed between Italy and Spain - which count more than one hundred and ten thousand infected each - by miracle, one finds a number of infected in the population equal to half of that of Italy and Spain, with a number of deaths equal to four thousand. It will be the effect of Lourdes and de la Salette but even here it seems that the accounts do not add up.

Il UK instead he was saved thanks to the English Channel which detaches him from the rest of Europe, even physically, and communicates figures equal to thirty thousand infected and three thousand dead. I would like to see their hospitals their morgues, they would probably notice some rounding error.

- United States on the other hand, on the other side of the ocean, they claim to have more than two hundred thousand infected - they always do things great - only that the virus mortality rate must have lost strength by flying from one part of the ocean to the other, because fortunately, the deceased are just over five thousand, recording here also a very low mortality rate in line with the lies we have already talked about.

It is not known if there is a moral in all this. But we are Italians and as someone would say, even in tragedies like these, we are bread with bread and wine with wine. We lack that institutional malice which, however, would not find space in a society based on information and constitutional freedoms.

We know what we see and we are aware of what we live. We know with certainty that the Italian and probably the Spanish data are underestimated. Many deceased have not yet been counted among those attributable to coronavirus and the numbers, at the end of the pandemic, will certainly be much higher than those that we go every day to look for on specialized sites to attend the macabre update.

But the death rate of a virus cannot be determined by the economy. The mortality rate establishes the disease and this reaps victims everywhere in the same way.

However, a reflection is required, even if we do not want to find the moral in these evaluations, that is, if these are our international Partners, we really need to be careful.

We wait for the storm to pass but then, once the clear weather returns, we try to find that national unity that we can only manifest on these occasions or during the world football championships. Let's put aside anachronistic and useless political divisions resulting from an inauspicious war period that sees Italy split between those of the right and those of the left. Let's stand up as we always have and start walking alone on the legs of the national industry but without winking at those who made their fortunes out of lies.

We are out of the festival and we are proud of it.
