Cruise ship adrift and at the mercy of the wind in front of the coasts of Norway

The evacuation plan is triggered: 1.300 passengers away from the “Viking Sky”. The cause: the sudden shutdown of the engines that left the ship out of control due to the shutdown off the coast of Norway

It is not known if a new "Costa Concordia" case could happen, but the news makes one shiver anyway, and it is imaginable the mood of those who are experiencing, at least for a few moments, something similar to what happened on the Island of Giglio on January 13 seven years ago. This time, however, it happened off the coast of Norway, when the engines of the Viking Sky, the mega-cruise ship launched by Fincantieri two years ago, would suddenly shut down, while the ship was in the middle of navigation in the midst of strong winds with gusts at 70 km / h and a violent hailstorm in the waters of Hustadvika.

Thus the commander of the colossus of the sea, at the mercy of the waves and currents, was forced to start the evacuation of the 1.300 passengers. As far as is known, in fact, the boat is heading quickly and without control against the mainland and the rescue units are trying to bring all the travelers ashore, including the crew members.

The municipality of Fræna, which would be the closest to the ocean giant, has set up a crisis unit. It is not yet known whether there are Italians among the cruise passengers, notes Giovanni D'Agata, president of the "Rights Desk", for a story that still reminds us of the premises of what happened at the "Giglio" and which certainly constitutes a warning and an important precedent, which will surely have pushed the command of the Viking Sky to a timely evacuation like the one in progress.
