Strong reduction also in 2020 of attacks on oil pipelines thanks to the monitoring work by the Central Directorate of the Criminal Police and the unem

Thanks to the renewed and intensified collaboration between the Criminal Analysis Service of the Central Directorate of the Criminal Police and Unione Energia per la Mobilità - unem (formerly Unione Petrolifera), which brings together the main oil companies operating in Italy in the field of oil refining , logistics and distribution of petroleum products (the so-called petroleum downstream), the number of attacks on oil pipelines has greatly reduced.

The recent analysis conducted on the specific criminal phenomenon, aimed at stealing the fuel that passes through it from the pipelines, highlighted how the same, already down in 2019, registers only 6 break-in attempts in 2020, of which only one case successful. All this thanks to the precious collaboration at central level and the continuous monitoring work, aimed at providing the operational guidelines for the territorial prevention and contrast activities of the State Police, Carabinieri and Guardia di Finanza.

It is important to underline how these criminal activities can endanger public safety, cause the interruption of public services and have serious consequences also on environmental matrices (water and subsoil).
