Afghanistan: Taliban operation in Kunduz, dead 26

The Afghan security forces carried out an important military operation against the Taliban in the northern province of Kunduz, with a provisional toll of 26 insurgents killed, including the commander of the so-called 'Red Unit'. The provincial police chief, Khalilullah Ziai, specified that the offensive took place yesterday on the third day of Aid - the festival of sacrifice - in the district of Chardara and that today the special forces carried out round-up operations. "Thanks to it - he added - six villages have been completely freed from the presence of the Taliban and a seventh, Qatl-e-Am, is today the center of land and air operations". Finally, Ziai said that among the 26 Taliban killed was Hayatullah (also known as Sangin), head of the 'Red Unit', as well as commanders Qari Harun and Shuja Hilmandi.
