3M confirms itself again as a leading company in terms of sustainability: for the nineteenth consecutive year the Dow Jones Sustainability Index has recognized to the St. Paul company the excellent level of its commitment, including it in the very limited number of companies constantly present in the Index ( DJSI).
3M, a society that translates science into life-enhancing solutions, has a long-standing commitment to sustainability. It all started in the 70 years with the 3P Program (Pollution Prevention Pays), a series of commitments that have been translated both in concrete actions in respect of the environment and in hundreds of product and process improvements, thus forming the basis of a the culture permeated in the organization. Today the company targets the 2025 Sustainability Goals in a path that focuses on water, climate and energy, to continue to demonstrate concretely that good practices, in addition to being positive for the planet, are also positive for the business.
"The commitment to find solutions to the great global challenges is at the base of everything we do in 3M," said Dirk Lange, MD of 3M Italia "We are indeed a company with a strong focus on the goal and sustainability is one drivers to create innovative solutions useful to our customers and in general to improve people's lives ".
Sustainability is today an integrated approach in 3M business practices: in developing new solutions for customers, the company maintains its commitment to reducing environmental impact through products and solutions, but also helping customers to be sustainable in turn with economic benefits.
This commitment has allowed 3M to achieve several important goals in the 2018:
• reduction of 68,1% of greenhouse gas emissions compared to 2002
• electricity generated for 30% from renewable sources
• environmental protection investments, training programs and community programs exceeding 70 million dollars
• new supplier evaluation process that measures the level of social and environmental sustainability
• launch of an innovative product - 3M ™ smog reducing granules - which, when applied to tiles, uses sunlight to clean the air from smog.
The DJSI - created by analysts and researchers who study in depth the environmental, social and economic performance of companies - is not the only ranking to reward 3M.
For the 2018 the company was in fact inserted by EcoVadis in the "Gold" category, among the very first companies in the world (1% of the ranking) in terms of social responsibility (environment, social, ethics and supply chain) for all industrial categories .
