Malaysia and the Republic of North Macedonia choose Leonardo for new air traffic control systems

At the World ATM Congress 2019 show, taking place in Madrid from the 12 to the 14 March, Leonardo announced that it will provide air traffic control systems in Malaysia and the Republic of Northern Macedonia. In particular, Leonardo will adapt the military component of an air traffic control system in Malaysia, where the company is also finalizing the supply of systems for the new international airport of Kuala Lumpur following a contract signed in the 2016. The update involves the installation of five air traffic control consoles developed on the basis of an innovative virtual architecture. The solution makes it possible to provide a more resilient service, without interruption, even in the event of a failure, a particularly necessary condition in critical contexts, such as airports. Furthermore, it guarantees considerable energy savings and greater sustainability, also from an environmental point of view. The supply also includes the integration in the center of a communication system and some military radars, as well as training.

In the Republic of Northern Macedonia Leonardo won a tender for a new air traffic control system for M-NAV, the Macedonian air navigation services agency. LeadinSky will be installed at Skopie International Airport, in accordance with the requirements of the SESAR program and Eurocontrol. Leonardo's advanced system will allow the country to meet the new requirements for air traffic control redesigned in view of the implementation of the single sky in Europe. The system is the most innovative version that Leonardo offers on the market; thanks to a robust software architecture, it guarantees the acquisition and integration of information from different heterogeneous sources, from radars to satellites, for a complete awareness of the air traffic situation both by tower controllers and by operators in control centers. It also offers robust resilience thanks to multilevel disaster recovery solutions and strong redundancy. The modularity of Leadinsky also allows the progressive integration of all the solutions that will be developed at European level through the SESAR program for the implementation of the single sky.

Leonardo's ATC systems in the world Leonardo is a global leader in air traffic control systems. In Italy, the company will develop a platform for the management of air traffic of drones together with ENAV the company that manages the national civil air traffic, for which Leonardo is also building a new generation air traffic control system under the contract 4-Flight. Leonardo has installed over 300 centers

worldwide air traffic management and control, provided more than 80 advanced training ATC simulators. Over 700 primary or secondary surveillance radars (including S mode) have been sold, as well as more than 2000 operator stations and 1000 navigation systems. Leonardo has also delivered about 400 weather radar in over 80 countries and over 40 automatic meteorological observation systems. The third-generation radio stations provided by the company offer customers a multimodal communication capability capable of simultaneously transmitting voice and data. Leonardo communication systems are present in over 600 airports all over the world.
