Eni acquires new exploration rights in Mozambique

Eni signed in Maputo, in the presence of Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Ernesto Max Tonela, the contract for the exclusive rights of exploration and development of the offshore block A5-A, in the deep waters of the Zambezi Northern Basin, about 1.500 kilometers northeast of the capital. With this acquisition, Eni further strengthens its presence in Mozambique, a country of strategic importance for the company.

The block, which has been assigned to Eni following participation in the competitive "5 ° Licensing Round" organized by the Republic of Mozambique, extends over a total area of ​​5.133 square kilometers to a depth of water between 300 and 1.800 meters , in a completely unexplored area in front of the town of Angoche.

Eni, through its subsidiary Eni Mozambico, is the operator of the A5-A Block Consortium with a shareholding of 59,5%. The other partners are Sasol with 25,5% and the Mozambican State company Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH) with 15%.

Eni is present in Mozambique from 2006 following the acquisition of a stake in the Oil Contract of the 4 Area located in the offshore Rovuma basin, in the northern part of the country, where following an intense exploration campaign in the 3 area only resources have been discovered from the 2011 to the 2014 supergiant of natural gas in the deposits of Coral, Mamba and Agulha, estimated at 2.407 billion cubic meters of gas in place. The 4 Area Consortium consists of Eni (25%), ExxonMobil (25%) and CNPC (20%), participants through the company Mozambique Rovuma Venture, and Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (10%), Kogas (10% ) and Galp (10%).

The initial resource development project of Coral involves the construction of a floating plant (FLNG), for the treatment, liquefaction, storage and offloading of LNG with an annual liquefaction capacity of approximately 3,4 million tonnes. The implementation phase was started in June 2017 and foresees the start of production in the 2022.

For the Mamba Complex fields, the initial development program involves the construction of a plant Onshorecomposed of 2 trains for the treatment and liquefaction of gas and related facilities whose annual capacity is about 15,2 million tons of LNG. The start of production is expected in 2024 with the sanctioning of the project envisaged in the 2019.
