Eni, partner of the Mantua Festivaletteratura, talks about the evolution of the relationship between man and machine

From 2008 Eni is partner of the Festivaltteratura di Mantova, one of the most anticipated Italian cultural events of the year: five days of meetings with authors, readings, guided tours, shows and concerts with artists from all over the world.

Every year starting from 2008, Eni organizes the event inside the event Unpublished Energy, in which are republished texts, from the fifties and sixties, taken from the historical company magazine "Il Gatto Selvatico", commissioned by Enrico Mattei and directed by the poet Attilio Bertolucci. For each edition a theme is chosen and prestigious guests are called to debate it. The event represents an important opportunity for reflection on topics of culture and society. Grown up over time, today it is one of the most awaited by the Festival's loyalists: cinema and literature, art and cuisine have been some of the topics discussed and discussed in the various editions with leading figures.

The relationship between man and machine is at the center of this year's event. Process digitalisation and smart work are just two of the components that currently characterize the fourth industrial revolution and the vertiginous speed of technological progress opens the door to various future scenarios. In this context it becomes fundamental to reflect on the role of the human being in a reality in which there is a fusion between the real world of industrial plants and the virtual world of the so-called Internet of Things. During the meeting we will discuss human value, the centrality of skills and the margins of integration between man and machine, evaluating both risks and opportunities.

This year's event will be held on Sunday 9 September at 11.30 in Piazza Castello in Mantua. On the stage to discuss with the historic presenter of the meeting, Neri Marcorè, there will be Umberto Galimberti, philosopher, sociologist, psychoanalyst and Italian academic; Luca Nemolato, the Italian artist behind the fish man of "The Shape of Water", Concept Artist for films, television series, video games and advertising all over the world. Fiorella Operto, co-founder of a series of books of scientific divulgation and founder of the robotics school in Genoa, is also united to them, of which she is also president. And finally, Jacopo Perfetti, entrepreneur, author of three books on the subject of entrepreneurship, work and innovation of business models and university lecturer at the SDA Bocconi School of Management in Milan where he teaches entrepreneurship.

The volume published in this edition, entitled "Technically", Through the stories of the Wild Cat, traces the history of the great electronic computers between the Fifties and Sixties to arrive, thanks to the articles of the other company house organ, to the advent of the network between the Nineties and 2000s.

A journey that leads to the discovery of the evolution between human beings and the digital universe, facing the centrality of skills and knowledge, technological development and impacts on daily life and work.

The publication is completed by an extraordinary iconographic collection from the Eni historical archive and the most significant Italian and international archives on the topic: IBM, Olivetti, Cnr and TIM. Some of the images published bear the signature of great photographers such as Gianni Berengo Gardin and Mario Mulas.
