The Undersecretary for Agricultural, Forestry and Tourism Policies Alessandra Pesce took part in the "UN Decade of Family Farming" event at FAO.

In December 2017, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 2019-2028 as the decade of family farming: during this period, countries are called upon to develop public policies and investments to support it in the context of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

"We want to concretely contribute to the action plan because I am convinced that this decade can truly make a difference for the millions of farmers who are facing the momentous challenges of our times." Undersecretary Pesce said. "Italy is ready to collaborate in its implementation and its success because even in our country family farming has allowed the maintenance of the delicate balance between innovation and tradition, supporting the rural economy and has had the great merit of providing products of high quality favoring the production of local goods. Furthermore, the role played in preserving the rural landscape, the environment and biodiversity should not be overlooked. In recent years, many family businesses in Italy have been engaged in the development of social agriculture with paths of integration and inclusion of the weaker sections of the population, with great attention to female and young entrepreneurs ”.
