Eni's CEO also met the president of NOC Mustafa Sanalla

The Head of the Presidency Council of the Libyan Government of National Unity, Fayez al-Sarraj, met today in Tripoli with Eni's Chief Executive Officer, Claudio Descalzi. Eni's CEO had previously met the president of the National Oil Corporation (NOC), Mustafa Sanalla.

During the talks the parties discussed the general situation of the country, addressing in particular the issue of security. Claudio Descalzi confirmed Eni's strong commitment to regularly carry out activities in the country. Fayez al-Sarraj and Mustafa Sanalla both thanked Eni for their support and closeness to the Libyan people and to NOC.

Eni's CEO illustrated the initiatives undertaken in the electricity generation sector, in particular focusing on technical assistance activities for the maintenance of some power plants in the Tripoli area. This commitment by Eni is further proof of the company's support to the country: Eni is the main supplier of gas to the local market, entirely intended to power the country's power plants for an electricity generation capacity of over 3 GW.

The meeting with President Sanalla took stock of the situation on the status of Eni's ongoing projects in Libya. As regards Bahr Essalam 2 Phase, launched in July, the activities of connecting the remaining seven wells that will be completed by the end of 2018 continue.

As regards the project to increase the compression capacity of the Wafa plant, the first gas is expected in the coming days. The realization of this project is a clear indication that important development activities can be successfully implemented even in remote areas of the Libyan territory.

Mustafa Sanalla and Claudio Descalzi took stock of the progress of the negotiations of the Exploration and Production Sharing Agreement ("EPSA"), following the letter of intent (LOI) signed in October between Eni, NOC and BP, for the assignment to Eni of a 42,5% stake and of the Operatorship in EPSA, with the aim of restarting activities in the first half of 2019.

Finally, the president of NOC and the CEO of Eni took the opportunity to discuss also important future projects, in particular the development of the offshore A&E structures, the launch of the tender for the engineering firm is expected shortly. The implementation of this project will make it possible to extend the gas production plateau from the Libyan offshore, with significant savings for the country in relation to the import of liquid fuels.

 

Lastly, in parallel with the relaunch of investments in the country and in the context of current and future projects, the opportunity and need to form a considerable number of young Libyans were discussed with the main objective of improving their skills and competences. professionals in the industrial and oil sector in particular.

 

Eni is the leading international producer of hydrocarbons in Libya, where it currently produces 280.000 barrels of oil equivalent per day equity.
