Di Maio - Salvini already agreed on Russia and the United States with less EU

Password? re-discuss the main EU treaties, to recover shares of national sovereignty. Relations with Russia would, on the other hand, be a common element in a hypothetical government pact between the 5 Stars and the Lega Movement. The two parties that won the elections have always looked with interest, in these years, to the leadership of Vladimir Putin. Letting imagine an approach to foreign policy less bound to that of traditional European partners. These are parallel paths, for now, those followed by the two parties labeled as populists who point to the leadership of Palazzo Chigi, paths marked also by different journeys. One point in common is the belief that economic sanctions on Russia must be overcome in the EU. Both the M5S and the Lega consider it a priority to eliminate them or to ease the pressure not only to fully involve Moscow in international fora, but also because "they have not produced concrete results, on the contrary, they have penalized Italian companies". Both parties, in general, considered the European position on the crisis in the Crimea to be wrong. Therefore, the attention towards Putin's re-election in the Kremlin has been high. But the delicate Italian political situation has advised more caution than in the past: being one step away from the government is different from being an opposition force. Especially for the M5S trying to shake off the label of extremism. From Luigi Di Maio's party, therefore, no comment on the outcome of the vote in Russia: the line of non-interference in the affairs of other countries has been respected. However, the presence, in 2016, of Manlio Di Stefano at the United Russia congress, Putin's party, should be remembered. And also some missions, such as the one that always saw Senator Vito Petrocelli as protagonist in that year, who not by chance made a reasoned map of the Russian vote on Sunday, region by region. The one who openly claimed his support for Putin was the secretary of the League, Matteo Salvini, who congratulated him on his re-election on social media. Salvini is the leader who has invested the most in terms of image in this relationship, so much so that he has also visited the Crimea. A year ago he was in Moscow to sign a cooperation agreement between the League and United Russia. In the 2015 he had met Putin himself in Milan, in the margins of the Asem summit. For now, however, Salvini has not made any statements on the subject of Russia. Some leaguers were in Moscow during these election days, as witnessed by photos published on the profiles of the Lombard League, but not in an official capacity. The leader of via Bellerio prefers to rely on the usual Giancarlo Giorgetti, who is also the party's foreign director, and the other deputy secretary, Lorenzo Fontana. The ambition is to be able to act as a 'bridge', once in government, between Russia and the United States. Counting, they say, on a greater harmony not only with Putin but also with Donald Trump.
