Defense, "Large Infrastructures and Green Barracks"

This morning the Minister of Defense, Elisabetta Trenta, accompanied by the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, General of the Armed Forces Salvatore Farina, visited the newly renovated lodgings in some barracks of the "Cecchignola" Military City, aimed at improving the housing conditions of the personnel employed in the "Safe Roads" Operation in Rome.

Minister Trenta, during the meeting with the military and civil personnel of the Command district, underlined that "the intervention is part of the implementation of the broader and ambitious "Grandi Infrastrutture - Caserme Verdi" study, presented by the Army General Staff and wanted by the Defense to provide the staff with new generation infrastructures, efficient, functional, fully responsive to current regulations, including training areas, housing poles for military personnel and related families and sports facilities and recreational partners also open to the community".

The works, carried out by the Operational Department of the Infrastructural Engineering Department (ROGI), saw the implementation of maintenance work on some buildings that allowed to increase the accommodation capacity with additional 460 beds. This intervention follows those already implemented in recent months in Rome, Milan and Cesana Torinese (TO) that have allowed the modernization of over 100 housing.

These measures are part of the implementation of the guidelines illustrated by General Farina to the Defense Committees of the Chamber and the Senate and in particular regarding aspects related to the well-being and safety of personnel who can operate and live in modern and sustainable infrastructures. In this context, preparatory activities were also started for the implementation of some pilot projects in the North, Central and Southern Italy.

The launch of this innovative and modern study, with a low financial impact as it is a wide-ranging plan and conceived to renovate an infrastructure park consisting of buildings built for more than 70 years, will allow us to intervene decisively and without delay by starting a process " virtuous "which allows to have a completely renovated infrastructure park with consequent reduced maintenance costs, high energy efficiency and eco-sustainable materials. The project, moreover, is cost-effective from an economic point of view, also in relation to the containment, in perspective, of the operating costs and the advantages for the personnel inherent in the use of higher quality standards.
