Defense: inaugurated in Pozzuoli Academic year 2019-2020 of the training institutes of the Air Force

The traditional inauguration ceremony for the Academic Year of the Air Force 2019-2020 took place this morning in Pozzuoli, at the Accademia Aeronautica, in the presence of the Minister of Defense, Hon. Lorenzo Guerini.

The event, which was attended by the Chief of Defense General Enzo Vecciarelli, the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Air Force General Alberto Rosso and numerous civil and military authorities, opened with an intervention by the Commander of the Schools and the 3rd Air Region, Air Squad General Aurelio Colagrande, who after a brief introduction on the main activities carried out in the last Academic Year, wanted to highlight the most significant future projects and objectives in the field of training and selection .

“An important and meaningful day because training represents and testifies, in summary, the attention we pay to our future, to the Air Force of tomorrow”, said General Rosso in his speech. “Our Institutes first of all form people, from a human point of view, of character, of ethical and moral values; then soldiers, aware of a status of particular servants of the institutions, and finally professionals, who have the skills and qualities to face future challenges with competence and serenity. Today, with the enthusiasm of an extraordinary life in the armed force, I see myself in these guys and tell them to be protagonists and architects of their future, a successful future in the aeronautical family ”.

Afterwards, Dr. Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, who gave a Lectio Magistralis on the topic of “Skills and leadership for the industry of the future”.

The Chief of Defense Staff, General Enzo Vecciarelli, then intervened, underlining the importance of personnel training, "fundamental to allow the Defense and the country to have men and women capable of operating competently, with thought critical and with strategic leadership.

Today I ask you - Gen. Vecciarelli concluded - to feed your dreams without fear and doubt but with passion and pride to become bearers of peace, stability and international security ”.

The ceremony ended with the words of the Minister of Defense. "The future of every organization lies in the ability of its human resource to adapt to changes, to make a difference in the face of increasingly complex and difficult domains and scenarios", underlined the Minister. “This is why in the new defense programmatic lines I strongly wanted to focus attention on the need for a strategy that focuses precisely on the training of men and women capable of orienting themselves in the best possible way in these extremely dynamic scenarios. Ability to be achieved through knowledge, know-how but, I add, above all through knowing how to do well ”. Hon. Guerini, in recalling the words of Col. Luca Parmitano on the day he assumed command of the international space station, finally wanted to underline the importance and value of gratitude towards his teachers and trainers, "which is also an incentive in always put the utmost commitment to serving the country with discipline and honor and to make the Air Force, Defense and Italy proud of you ".

During the ceremony, important awards were given to the students who distinguished themselves during the training course, including the "saber of honor", attributed to the pilot student who maintained the position of course manager.

Here are the awards given during the ceremony:

  • the "annual award for military aptitude in the Academies", established by the Military Order of Italy in the 1996 and intended for the students of all the Military Academies distinguished in the military attitude at the end of the 2 year of the course, went to the Aspiring pilot Paolo Ferrante of Corso Vulcano V;
  • the "Saber of Honor", destined for the pilot student who, during the three years of the Regular Course, maintained the position of course leader, given to the aspiring pilot Filippo Cheli of the Corso Uranus V;
  • the "Plaque of Honor", destined to the non-navigating student who during the first three years of the regular course was kept in the first ranking of the respective role, attributed:
    • to the Aspirant of the Role of Weapons Fabrizio Blau of the Uranus Course V;
    • to the Aspirant of the Aeronautical Genius Francesco Di Gennaro of the Corso Uranus V;
    • To the Aspirant of the Aeronautical Health Corps Giuseppe Mascialino of the Corso Uranus V.
  • the "Dagger of Honor" to the Marshal of 3ª class Mirko Migliavacca, of the 19 ° Course "Zephyr" of the Marshal School of the Air Force, ranked first in the final ranking at the end of the third Academic Year.

Budgets and numbers. In the Academic Year 2018 / 2019, 5127 visitors passed through the training institutes and schools of the Air Force, including more than 148 foreign students.

In particular:

  • 211 between Officers and Marshals have a short degree;
  • 70 Officers have completed their studies with the Master's degree;
  • 42 Officers, of which 11 foreigners have obtained the military pilot's license at the Flight Schools of Lecce, Sheppard (USA), Pratica di Mare and Frosinone, while at the School of Flight of Latina 63 Official Students, of which 10 AUPC and 12 foreigners, have obtained the patent of airplane pilot;
  • 17 visitors (of which 8 of the Guardia di Finanza, 5 of the Carabinieri and 4 of the State Police) have obtained the military license of helicopter pilot;
  • 9 visitors (of which 5 of the Fire Brigade and 4 of the State Police) have obtained the helicopter pilot license;
  • 101 Captains have achieved the Master of 2 level in Leadership and Strategic Analysis.
