After Macron, also Merkel in Washington to meet Trump

Ulrike Demmer, a spokesman for the German government, has confirmed that German Chancellor Angela Merkel will be in Washington on April 27. The visit of the Chancellor will follow a few days that of French President Macron scheduled for the next 24 April.

"Bilateral relations and diplomatic and security-related challenges will be the focus of the talks," a spokeswoman for the German government, Ulrike Demmer, told the press without providing further details. Free trade, immigration and climate are just some of the main issues of disagreement between Merkel and Trump.

Before and after his election, Trump attacked Germany in general and the chancellor in particular to denounce the country's trade surplus, threaten the automotive sector with duties and criticize the reception of migrants. In addition, Berlin has been waiting for a new American ambassador for over a year.
