The bank branch Credem had been attacked, 65.000 euro the booty
The Trapani State Police arrested three convicted Palermo residents for robbing, last August 26, the branch of the Credem bank in Via Virgilio, in Trapani.
The Flying Squad has identified the three robbers "on the road" by analyzing the footage of numerous private video surveillance systems in the city. A particular black and white t-shirt, worn by one of the three during the robbery, was instrumental in tracing the cars used for the escape and to identify the whole gang.
The images have allowed the men of the Crime Section against Heritage to reconstruct the movements of the robbers, since they left the city, after the coup, until they returned to their homes in Palermo. Dozens of videos, compared with the images of the cameras in the bank branch, and numerous telephone and environmental interceptions were at the base of the accusatory system, which convinced the Trapani GIP to accept the request for custody in prison.
The robbery took place on August 26, at 11.30. The robbers had entered the Credem branch thanks to one of the three who, pretending to be a customer, had passed the security compass first, with the face partially hidden by a hat. Once inside, he had threatened one of the cashiers with a pair of scissors found on a desk and had him open the compass, to let the other two accomplices enter.
With extreme coolness and self-control, the three criminals had locked up the employees and customers in a room together with those who gradually entered the branch, unaware of what was happening. One then, had moved into the vault with the cashier and the manager and had waited, for 15 minutes, for one of the two timed "treasures", which held 50.000 euro, to open. The robbers had not waited for the second "treasure" to open, because more 30 minutes would have to pass and the risk of being discovered would have increased. The three, however, before escaping, had forced one of the cashiers to make four withdrawal operations to be handed over other 15.000 euros. The notes were put back in a black bag, they had escaped in two cars.
The investigators of the Mobile, after the robbery, had scoured the city, identifying the escape route and the cars, a Golf and a Multipla, thanks to the images of the video surveillance of some shops in the area. On the way made by the two cars the policemen had found, inside a rubbish bin, a shirt and latex gloves worn by one of the criminals and three cellular phones, which had been taken away from the customers of the bank.
This morning at the 4.00, in Palermo in the neighborhood of Ballarò and Misilmeri, the blitz of the Flying Squad of Trapani was triggered with the collaboration of that of Palermo.
Those arrested were taken to the prison in Trapani, where they will await the interrogation of the guarantee by the GIP.
