CGIA, busy with the 2008, worked hours dropped by 1,1 billions

Although the latest Istat survey highlighted that the number of employees in July of this year, equal to just over 23 million units, returned to the same level as in 2008, the number of hours worked, on the other hand, decreased by over 1,1 billion (-5 percent).

In the first 6 months of 2008, in fact, Italian workers had been in factories or offices for a total of 22,8 billion hours, in the first 2 quarters of this year, however, the stock fell to 21,7.

In essence, report by the CGIA's Office of Labor, if the same number of hours worked decreased, compared to 2008, full-time workers have fallen and vice versa increased part-time jobs (term contracts, part-time involuntary, intermittent work, administration, etc.).

Indeed, if 2008 full time employees were the 86 percent of the total, 8 years later they dropped to the 81 percent. Those part-time, on the other hand, rose from 14 to 19 percent of the total.

With labor productivity that has undergone a very significant contraction both in services (-3,1 per cent) and in construction (-7,1 per cent) - the latter sectors which employ 79 per cent of total employees present in the country - the average wage per employee also fell sharply: between 2008 and 2016 it decreased, net of inflation, by 3,4 per cent.

"Although we have recovered the occupiers we had before the crisis," said CGIA Paolo Zabeo, the coordinator of the CIA's office, this was at the expense of the quality of new jobs and the decline in productivity in the most important sectors that dragged also low per capita pay levels. "

In addition to this, the CGIA recalled, compared to the pre-crisis situation, Italy must recover 3 percentage points of household consumption, 5,8 points of GDP, 7 points of household disposable income and 24,4 points among the main economic indicators. XNUMX investment points.

“We hope - concludes the Secretary of the CGIA Renato Mason - that with the 2018 Budget Law the resources available will be used to reduce taxes, especially through the cut in income tax. Only in this way can we hope to vigorously relaunch internal consumption which, I recall, is the most important component of our GDP ”.
