Helicopter lands off-screen in the province of Latina after hitting electrical cables

Aircraft crew unharmed and no damage to other people or things

Late yesterday afternoon, Wednesday 10 January, an HH-101 helicopter of the 9th Wing of the Air Force, during a night training mission departing from the Grazzanise (CE) permanent base, made an off-field landing in the Minturno area ( Latina) after accidentally hitting an electric cable in flight.

The crew, as required by the procedures, following the impact and having identified a suitable landing area, took the aircraft to the ground as a precaution for further checks. The second helicopter, of the same type, which was participating in the training mission, returned to the Grazzanise base once the safe landing of the first helicopter had been ascertained.

The crew members did not report any type of problem, nor were any other people or things involved, with the exception of the electric cable that was hit.

The helicopter, after careful checks by a team of specialists and maintainers of the Armed Forces, will return to its home base.

As is customary in these cases, a team of experts was activated to ascertain the dynamics and causes of the event for prevention purposes.

Night flight training is an integral part of maintaining fundamental operational capabilities that allow the crews and aircraft of the Armed Forces to intervene safely and in all conditions, both in support of air operations and in case of need, to help the population civil.
