Air Force helicopter engaged in the recovery and emergency medical transport of a passenger from a ferry

Yesterday late afternoon a helicopter of the 85th CSAR Center (Combat Search And Rescue) of Pratica di Mare took off from Capodichino Airport to carry out the recovery of a passenger from the "Venezia" ferry departing from Genoa and bound for Malta

On Sunday 27 November, an HH139B helicopter of the 85th CSAR Center of the 15th Wing stationed in Pratica di Mare intervened to provide assistance to a passenger who, while sailing on board a "Venezia" ferry, was caught by an illness.

The intervention of the military aircraft, which took off around 17:30 from Capodichino Airport, was necessary to allow the patient to be able to reach the nearest hospital in the shortest possible time.

Upon reaching the ship, which at that moment was passing off the Gulf of Naples, the crew immediately activated ensuring the immediate boarding of the patient through the use of the winch. Landed around 18:20 at the Ospedale del Mare in Naples, the man was entrusted to the medical care of the health personnel. The helicopter then returned to the Capodichino base where it resumed its operational readiness service.

Yesterday's transport was requested by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center of the Coast Guard of Rome and was coordinated by the Rescue Coordination Center (RCC), the operational structure of the Aerospace Operations Command which also supervises and coordinates types of missions such as the medical transport of 'urgency.

The 85th CSAR Center is one of the Departments of the 15th Wing of the Air Force which guarantees, 24 hours a day, 24 days a year, without interruption, the search and rescue of flight crews in difficulty, contributing furthermore, to public utility activities such as the search for missing persons at sea or in the mountains, the emergency medical transport of sick people in danger of life and the rescue of seriously traumatized people, also operating in difficult weather conditions.
