Oil that runs out and new deposits, what is the truth

On the geophysical maps of most of the world's laboratories, we have represented deposits and areas of the earth with immense natural hydrocarbon reserves. We have oil, it does not end, for the simple fact that the earth reproduces it

(by Michele Marseille) I am convinced that this article will bring some pain in the stomach to those analysts, scholars, geologists and professors who for years, or better yet now, ride the myth of the 'Peak of Oil' (better known as Theory or ' Peak of Hubbert 'and it will be a next topic on these pages) and of the continuous and incorrect information that in a few years, of Petrolio, there will be no more.

Often they ask me why I write Petrolio with a capital letter, which in journalistic and Italian language ethics is not even grammatically correct.

Because it is like respecting, for me, indeed, it is respect for one's work - forgive but we all have problems.

Today we are part of a topic that for us, sector employees, that of Energy, or, if you prefer a more international term, Oil & Gas, it is necessary to explain and clarify a contradictory sense that influences and confuses public opinion not only Italian but international.

On the one hand, oil, as some illustrious lords of science says, is running out, and on the other hand we are rushing to grab new fields, wells, sea basins, new types of methane gas, inserting ourselves in situations that are gangrenous by the most complicated geopolitics of strategy that most of the time, non-experts, think: 'but what are they doing?'

It is right, however, also to specify that a lower yield or the temporary decrease of a (small) deposit or a well is possible, if the producer, or whoever operates or manages that site, runs out, with a very greedy program of years, the reserves in that particular soil layer.

An aqueduct runs out of its tanks much faster, based on the management of flows, identical and elementary theory. Inversely proportional.

And it is the case of some countries of the United States of America and of that so called 'Technique of Fracking' (we will deepen in the next appointments on the pages of 'L'Indro'), where the invasive greed of oil and gas from shale has led to the temporary exhaustion of the product in the subsoil.

Momentary yes, because the hydrocarbon will end when the sun ends, when the moon ends, etc. etc….

I hope in your understanding that by now, those who know myself, know that I speak of my work and of this 'Element' that the earth gives us from the prose of Dolce Stil Novo but, an organic mixture that the earth generates and produces naturally, to today, according to scientific sources, it cannot end, I repeat, except in some situations where man anticipates and ends the normal times of reproduction of the earth.

Because even where it ends, over the years, it is reformed.

The definition oil is an oily, liquid, yellow-brown mixture, consisting mainly of aliphatic and liquid aromatic hydrocarbons, in which solid and gaseous hydrocarbons are dissolved, accompanied by small quantities of oxygenated, nitrogen and sulfurated organic products, present in natural deposits located at varying depths in the subsoil, in soils of different geological ages, generally sedimentary.

Let's leave the technicality of the definition alone and think of those words: 'Present natural indepositi'.

And this is where we made our fortune.

I'm sure that at the moment some extreme environmentalist will want to shoot me, but if he has to do it, he still needs oil or a material derived from it. Considering that our dear Petroleum is used and used for most of the materials that accompany our life today.

And here is the race to the fields: Middle East, Libya, South America, Somalia, Kenya, where we talked about it this week, linking some stories of the young cooperator Silvia Romano to the interests for different areas of Africa rich in hydrocarbon and yet to be explored .

Still to be explored. On the geophysical maps of most of the world laboratories, up to arriving, this time last, on the tables of FederPetroli Italy, we have represented deposits and areas of the earth with immense natural reserves of hydrocarbon, so I speak both of oil (oil in technical jargon ) and gas, where before starting explorations, explorations and possible and advantageous productions, decades will pass, and in those decades, the earth will continue to work through a set of natural chemical elements to produce and generate hydrocarbon molecules that over time will released or solicited in their action by man.

In some areas of the earth's crust, mainly arid and rocky, the passage of an earthquake or even small seismic shocks, in conjunction with other morphological situations, generates the transport on the surface of a dark and muddy greenish fluid / liquid. Gentlemen is Oil.

Or rather, to those who have never happened - and here my deepest childhood memories awaken - playing on a beach, getting your feet dirty with that famous tar and then using hours of detergents, especially in summer, to eliminate it. Tar, most of the times - because there are different types - is made up of water with a large quantity of organic substance, therefore the types of elements are almost infinite. Mineral tar is made of hydrocarbon. And from this we can say that many at an early age have been between a bucket and a palette, of small oilmen.

We have oil, and, sorry for someone, it doesn't end, put your soul in peace.

Despite my love for this dirty, ugly and responsible element of many things, I have always been in favor of eco-sustainability - and I speak only for myself -, the Oil & Gas Industry today is increasingly adapting to the Protocols of environmental protection that strongly contribute to an adage in the best styles and quality of life for everyone, both of those who work in this sector and of those who deserve, like everyone else, to live in a clean and healthy environmental context.

At the statistical source alone, the unexplored and certain Onshore (on land) and Offshore (at sea) deposits are still remarkable. The massive investment and use in the last few years of the international Oil Industry in the exploration of sea basins at high depths has been dictated by new geological and geophysical studies which have confirmed the significant presence of Natural Gas trapped in the subsoil, which is crucial for the consumption of countries industrialized or even first industrialized.

Oil that runs out and new deposits, what is the truth
