Energy: Russia with Gazprom mistress of the world

Soon #Gazprom will announce the start of liquefied gas supplies to China through the pipeline "Power of Serbia". With this work, Russia is preparing to conquer world leadership in the distribution of energy, in particular of liquefied gas. As Bellomo writes in Il Sole 24Ore, the Russian move will tend to redefine the global energy chessboard. The greatest consequences will have the United States first and the other global distributors of liquefied gas in the alternative. The project was accelerated by the duties imposed by Trump on China, which led Beijing to slow down imports from the USA.

Another front are relations in Europe, where Moscow is in continuous negotiations with Brussels for new supply routes in order to penalize Ukraine and therefore, since our gas passes through there, also Italy.

Gazprom goes on like a train and in a few days will also inaugurate the #TurkStream, to serve the Balkans via Turkey and will double #NordStream  to Germany, thanks to the green light given by Denmark to move from its own territory.

Gas supplies to China, writes Il Sole 24Ore, will be limited for now and will come from new “dedicated” fields in Eastern Siberia, without affecting the supplies of existing customers. EU countries buy volumes from Russia almost forty times higher than those given to China today and the #NordStream alone, once the capacity has doubled, it can deliver up to 110 Bcm per year. The scope of the Power of Siberia however, it is destined to increase in step with the development of the fields that feed it, reaching 38 Bcm a year in 2022-23, an amount equal to what #Gazprom sells today to the whole of Central-Eastern Europe and much higher to 22,7 Bcm delivered to Italy last year.

Moscow with 53 billion dollars has created, in twenty years, a work with which it demonstrates that it can break the umbilical cord with the European market. Before gas it was Russian oil, about ten years ago, that opened up a "safe" access to the Chinese market, thanks to the pipeline #Espo (East Siberia-Pacific Ocean), from which today over 600 barrels of crude oil pass through. Today Russia has overtaken Saudi Arabia to become China's top oil supplier with 1,5 million barrels per day. Moscow hopes to be able to replicate the strategy with gas.

Gazprom therefore presented a plan to expand the capacity of the Power of Siberia, but is in talks to build other pipelines, including the so-called Western Route or pipeline #Aitai (from 30 Bcm), which should draw from the same fields used to supply Europe. Gazprom promises that it will be able to satisfy both markets, becoming the world leader in the supply of gas.
