Eni's new Sustainability Report explains the ongoing transformation to address global challenges

Eni publishes today Eni For 2018, the thirteenth sustainability report, which illustrates how the company is evolving to face global challenges and to contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Eni For highlights the work that Eni carried out in 2018 and the objectives for the coming years in priority areas such as climate change, the environment, health and safety, respect for human rights, vocational education and training and local development. Eni For includes The Decarbonization Path, a document entirely dedicated, for the second consecutive year, to Eni's climate strategy, which follows the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure (TCFD), of which Eni has been a member since since its foundation, unique in the Oil & Gas industry.

"With a world population that could exceed 2040 billion in the 9, we feel the responsibility - as an energy sector company - to bring innovative and cleaner energy where needed," said Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi. "We can help promote economic development, invest in education and training, improve health and access to water," he added.

To meet these priorities, Eni has focused on creating partnerships with both the public sector and civil society organizations, as key tools for realizing its sustainability ambitions and contributing to the achievement of SDGs.

Partnerships are fundamental to face the most important challenges, as they allow to build common goals guided by shared values. To this end, Eni has worked with governments, international organizations, NGOs and other private companies.

Eni has signed agreements with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to develop sustainable energy in several African countries and with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to build solar-powered water wells in Nigeria. Eni has continued its demining program in Angola with HALO Trust, the largest humanitarian organization in the world that deals with mine removal. In line with its climate strategy, Eni re-launched its commitment through the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative, adhering to the collective target for reducing the intensity of methane emissions.

Furthermore, the intensity of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions has been reduced, in line with the target of -43% at 2025 compared to 2014 in upstream operations. In March, Eni announced the goal of reaching the net zero carbon footprint in the upstream sector for the 2030, increasing the efficiency of its activities, reducing GHG emissions and developing forest conservation projects.
