Eni accelerates the decarbonisation process by building two new photovoltaic plants in Tunisia and Pakistan

Eni renews its commitment to promoting sustainable development in the countries in which it operates, as part of the energy transition strategy in which renewable sources take on a central role.

Eni, through its own companies Eni New Energy Pakistan and Eni Tunisia BV, has started the construction of two new photovoltaic plants, respectively in the vicinity of the Bhit gas field (Eni op. 40%) in Pakistan, and in the ADAM oil concession (Eni op. 25%) in Tunisia. The plants, in support of the upstream operations, will supply green energy by operating in an offgrid configuration.

TUNISIA

The Adam photovoltaic plant, located in the Governorate of Tataouine, has a peak capacity of 5 MW. The energy produced will be used directly by the industrial site, reducing gas consumption and saving the emission of CO6.500 over 2 tons / year. The plant, which is expected to be built by the end of the 2019 and which is part of the cooperation agreement with the Compagnia di Stato Entreprise Tunisienne d'Activités Pétrolières (ETAP) for the development of generation projects from renewable sources in Tunisia, provides an innovative hybrid system of electricity generation with storage batteries that will facilitate the integration with existing gas turbines. Eni reconfirms its commitment to the decarbonisation of the Tunisian energy system.

PAKISTAN

The Bhit photovoltaic plant, with a peak capacity of 10 MW, will produce approximately 20 GWh / year (Gigawatt-hour). This energy will be used directly by the industrial site, reducing gas consumption and avoiding the emission of more than 140.000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere in the next 10 years. The project, which will be completed by October of the 2019, provides for the integration between the photovoltaic plant and the current power generation system and will allow the shutdown of one of the gas turbines currently in operation, thus allowing savings in operating costs .

These projects, among the first and most significant of their kind in the world, will in both cases allow the gas saved to be released and valued for sale. Eni confirms itself as a pioneer in the hybridization of renewable systems with traditional systems in industrial sites where it operates, technologically and economically enhancing the synergy between gas and renewables.

Eni has been present in Tunisia since 1961 and operates in the country in the Upstream sectors with activities concentrated in the desert areas of the south and in the Mediterranean offshore, Gas & LNG Power and Marketing with the management of the Transmed gas pipeline that connects Algeria to Italy through the Tunisia and Refining & Marketing.

Eni is present in Pakistan by 2000 and operates in the Upstream sector with activities concentrated in the permits of Bhit / Badhra (Eni operator 40%), Kadanwari (Eni operator 18,42%), Latif (Eni 33,3%), Sawan (Eni 23,68% ) Zamzama (Eni 17,75%) and Miano (Eni 15,16%). Eni is currently operating in the Pakistani offshore and is also active in the Midstream sector in the country.
