Eni and UNIDO sign a joint declaration to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals with a pioneering collaboration between public and private

Eni and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) today signed a joint declaration for the launch of a pioneering model of public-private collaboration, aimed at contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs ).

The declaration was signed by the Chief Executive Officer of Eni, Claudio Descalzi, and by the General Manager of UNIDO, LI Yong, in the presence of Giorgio Marrapodi, Director General of the Directorate General for Development Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation .

“The alliances between the public and private sectors are essential to promote development and improve access to energy in the world,” said Claudio Descalzi, Eni's CEO. "This joint declaration underlines our commitment to pool know-how, skills and economic resources to become a driving force behind the growth of the communities and countries in which we operate."

"Establishing alliances between a plurality of stakeholders is fundamental to achieving the goals of sustainable development," said UNIDO General Manager LI Yong. "UNIDO actively pursues collaboration agreements with business stakeholders, and Eni and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation share our ambition to promote a public-private cooperation approach with other partners".

The declaration outlines a new pioneering model of cooperation between the private sector and International Organizations in which the partners collaborate in a synergistic way, increasing the value of each other's experiences to improve the effectiveness of projects.

The collaboration between Eni and UNIDO aims to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs through strategic cooperation focused on areas of common interest, such as youth employment, the value chain of the agri-food chain, renewable energy and energy efficiency, in particular in Africa. The cooperation is also expected to produce many more concrete business interactions, which will lead to an increasing number of public-private partnerships for sustainable industrialization of Africa.

The ceremony for the signing of the declaration was held at Eni's leading research center - the Donegani Institute in Novara - where the group develops innovative technologies for sustainable energy.
