Eni announces a new light oil discovery in the 15 / 06 Block, offshore Angola

After Kalimba, Afoxé and Agogo, Ndungu's new discovery demonstrates the exploratory potential of blockade in deep sequences

Eni has carried out another important light oil discovery in the 15 / 06 Block in the Angolan deep offshore. The well was drilled on the exploration plan called Ndungu. The new discovery is estimated to hold up to 250 million light oil barrels in place with further potential.

The Ndungu 1 NFW exploration well is located a few km from the Eni offshore installations of the West Hub; was drilled by the Poseidon drilling vessel, in a water depth of 1076 meters, reaching a total depth of 4050 meters. Ndungu 1 NFW has encountered a single mineralized oil column (35 API °) of 65 m thick and 45 m of net reservoir in Oligocene sandstone with excellent petrophysical properties. An intense data acquisition campaign was carried out in the well which indicated a production capacity higher than the 10.000 barrels of oil / day.

Ndungu is the first significant discovery made in Angola within an existing Development Area, and represents the tangible result of the validity of the recent legislation promoted with the No.5 / 18 Presidential Decree of the 18 Maggio 2018, which defines a context legal support for additional exploration activities within existing Development Areas.

The discovery is located at 2 km from the field of Mpungi, and can therefore be quickly connected to production thanks to its proximity to submarine production systems. The production will be connected to the FPSO N'goma (West Hub), increasing the production capacity of the West Hub.

Ndungu is the fourth commercial discovery carried out with the resumption, in the middle of 2018, of the exploration campaign by the Joint Venture of the 15 / 06 Block. Follows the discoveries of Kalimba, Afoxé and Agogo; the 4 uncovered altogether are estimated to hold up to 1.4 billion barrels of light oil in place already today. The appraisal phase of these discoveries will be aimed at proving their further upside.

These important discoveries demonstrate the potential of the block and the effectiveness of the proprietary technologies that Eni has used and will use for the exploration of the 15 / 06 Block.

The Joint Venture of Block 15/06, formed by Eni (operator, 36,8421%), Sonangol P&P (36.8421%) and SSI Fifteen Limited (26.3158%), will plan the accelerated development activities of the discovery.

Angola is a key country for Eni's organic growth strategy. The company has been present in the country since the 1980, and today has an equity production equal to 150.000 barrels of oil equivalent / day. In the 15 / 06 Block Eni operates the West Hub and East Hub development projects that currently produce 155.000 days oil barrels (100%). Eni is also the operator of the onshore Cabinda Norte block.
