Eni announces a gas and condensate discovery in the Emirate of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates

Mahani-1 represents for Eni the first exploratory success in the Emirates just one year after the signing of the Concession agreements with the Sharjah Government

Eni announces a gas and condensed discovery in the Mahani exploration prospect, in the onhore of the Emirate of Sharjah, located in the area of Concession B. The discovery takes place following Eni's obtaining of the first Round of international exploration licenses competitive launched by the Petrja Council of Sharjah.

The Mahani-1 exploration well was drilled to a depth of 4.449 meters and met a thick column mineralized with gas and condensed in the carbonate reservoirs of the Lower Cretaceous age of Thamama. The well was tested for production by delivering 1.4 million cubic meters of gas per day with associated condensates. The discovery will require drilling other delineation wells to fully assess its potential. The current exploratory objectives of Area B, already explored in the past, are represented by the Jurassic and Cretaceous reservoirs of the Arabica carbonate platform, below the complex overthrusts in the internal chain of Oman. These goals require accurate and sophisticated geophysical processing to be successfully pursued.

Eni holds a 50% interest in the concession called Area B, where SNOC, the Sharjah State Oil Company, is an Operator with 50%. The Joint Venture has started the evaluation of the discovery and the feasibility studies to accelerate the development of these new resources by exploiting the synergies with the infrastructures already existing in the area.

Eni's presence in the Middle East has continued to grow over the past 2 years. Eni currently holds over 12.000 square kilometers of exploration areas in the United Arab Emirates, including the Sharjah onshore, Abu Dhabi offshore and Ras Al Khaimah. Eni's current equity production from the Abu Dhabi offshore is around 50.000 bbl / day. Eni also holds a 25% stake in ADNOC Refining. Eni is also present in the Middle East in Bahrain, Oman, Lebanon and Iraq, with both exploration and production activities.
