Eni, ANPG and Sonangol sign a protocol for initiatives in the field of agro-biofuels in Angola

On the occasion of the meeting between the President of the Republic of Angola João Gonçalves Lourenço and the CEO of Eni Claudio Descalzi, Eni Angola, ANPG and Sonangol signed a memorandum of understanding for the joint development of the agro-biofuels sector in the country .

As part of the agreement, Eni, ANPG and Sonangol will develop a decarbonization path for the Republic of Angola through a circular economy approach, evaluating in particular the development of low ILUC (Indirect Land-Use Change) crops. use of land), such as castor oil on degraded land and catch crops in rotation with cereals. In addition, the parties will also evaluate business opportunities in the waste collection sectors, with the aim of enhancing the organic fraction, and biorefining.

Today's MoU is in line with Eni's commitment to accelerate the energy transition in fossil fuel producing countries, promoting the integration of the African continent into the biofuel value chain through agri-food and industrial development initiatives aimed at the production of biofuels. advanced, supporting the decarbonisation of the transport sector and promoting development opportunities.

During the meeting, Descalzi also updated President Lourenço on the New Gas Consortium, which is about to close the final investment decision (FID), a milestone that will make it possible to enhance the country's non-associated gas reserves, accelerating it development through the use of local gas and significantly contributing to the country's decarbonisation process.

The President Lourenço and Descalzi also examined the progress of Eni's activities in the country, and in particular the key objectives for 2022. Among these, the launch of the project to increase gasoline production at the Luanda Refinery, the startup of the photovoltaic plant of Caraculo in the province of Namibe, and an important FID for the development of a third hub for production in block 15/06.
