Eni joins the Voluntary Principles Initiative

The annual plenary assembly of the Voluntary Principles Initiative (VPI) 2020, a multi-stakeholder initiative dedicated to respecting human rights in the management of security operations, unanimously approved the entry of Eni as an "Engaged Corporate Participant".

Participation consolidates the company's commitment to promoting dialogue with institutions to affirm respect for fundamental human rights principles in the management of security operations in support of its activities.

The Voluntary Principles Initiative, born in 2000 with the aim of bringing together governments, important international non-governmental organizations and the largest companies in the extraction, development of natural resources and energy sectors in a dialogue against violations and abuses of rights related to security, establishes a set of principles that have become a globally recognized standard focused on the promotion and protection of human rights around the world and on the constructive role that businesses, governments and civil society can play together in promoting these fundamental objectives.

In compliance with these principles, Eni has already introduced activities into its operating practice for several years that have enabled Eni's Security to promote training and awareness-raising initiatives in 14 countries, in favor of representatives of local institutions and to encourage the inclusion of clauses for respect for human rights in contracts relating to the provision of security services.

A particularly felt commitment that underlines the importance that Eni dedicates to the defense of human rights and that, as an international company, has always identified diversity as a precious and indispensable resource.
