A Riccardo Catella Foundation project for cultural initiatives in the park

Eni starts its collaboration with BAM - Biblioteca degli Alberi Milano, a project of the Riccardo Catella Foundation, a non-profit organization active for over fifteen years with the aim of promoting the culture of sustainability in the development of the territory and actively contributing to the improvement of quality of urban life through projects to enhance public spaces and green areas.

BAM is a contemporary botanical garden in the heart of Milan, where you can experience cultural experiences in contact with nature: with its ten hectares of extension and its extraordinary botanical collection, the BAM park is a unique example in Italy. In July 2019 a public-private partnership was signed between the Municipality of Milan, COIMA and the Riccardo Catella Foundation for the maintenance, safety and creation of a cultural program for the park, whose management was entrusted to the Foundation, which actively contributes to the improvement of the quality of urban life through projects for the enhancement of public spaces and urban green areas.

By virtue of the foregoing, Eni has decided to become a partner of BAM, recognizing its cultural value and framing this initiative in the broader commitment of the company on the issues of forest protection and conservation and related information and communication activities. It is, in fact, essential to identify opportunities for reflection on the role of forests in the context of Natural Climate Solutions, all those actions, that is, aimed at the conservation, restoration and better management of the territory to combat climate change. Through forest conservation it is possible, among other things, to increase carbon storage, avoid greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere resulting from deforestation and preserve unique ecosystems. As part of its decarbonisation strategy, Eni has envisaged the possibility of using carbon credits generated by forestry projects which, in addition to climatic and environmental benefits such as the protection of biodiversity, guarantee benefits in terms of social and economic development of local populations. Thanks to these projects, adhering to the United Nations REDD + (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation) scheme, Eni plans to progressively achieve a carbon credit portfolio of over 6 million tons / year of CO2 by 2024, over 20 million tons / year by 2030 and over 40 million tons / year by 2050. Furthermore, thanks to the promotion of the social and economic development of the host local populations, with REDD + projects Eni contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs ) of the United Nations including, in particular, SDGs 13 (Acting for the climate) and 15 (Life on Earth).

The appointment included in the cultural program of BAM and supported by Eni will be on 29 June 2021, at 18.30 pm, and will not only be an in-depth study on the protection and conservation of primary forests but a moment of involvement of all visitors to the park, thanks to the interaction between moments of scientific dissemination and musical and artistic performances.
