Eni successfully drilled and tested the Maha 2 well offshore Indonesia

The well was drilled on the Maha gas discovery located 16 kilometers south-east of the Jangkrik Floating Production Unit (FPU), operated by Eni. The company marks another major achievement in Indonesia following the recent start of Merakes production.

Eni has successfully drilled and tested the Maha 2 delineation well, located in the West Ganal Block in the Offshore of Kalimantan, Indonesia. The field is located about 16 kilometers south-east of the Jangkrik FPU, operated by Eni.

The well, drilled to a depth of 2.970 meters in 1.115 meters of water depth, encountered 43 meters of Pliocene sands with excellent properties of gas-filled reservoirs.

The production test, limited by the surface infrastructures, demonstrated excellent supply capacities with flow rates of approximately 1 million cubic meters per day of gas. Important information was collected through the test and core drilling data to perform all the studies required for the preparation of a field development plan on which two further delineation wells are planned. The Maha development plan will, in the most probable case, foresee a development with subsea wells that will be connected to the Jangkrik FPU where, similarly to Merakes, the new production will be conveyed. The proximity of the field to existing infrastructures will allow to maximize synergies and reduce the time and costs of future submarine development.

Eni is the operator of the West Ganal Block through its subsidiary Eni West Ganal Ltd. and holds a 40% equity interest with the partners Neptune West Ganal Ltd. and PT Pertamina Hulu West Ganal each holding 30%.

Eni has been operating in Indonesia since 2001 and today holds an important portfolio of assets in the exploration and development phase and an important production. The successful exploration campaign conducted by Eni in the waters of East Kalimantan has already led to the putting into production of the projects of Jangkrik and Merakes, whose production was announced last April. Equity production in the country is around 80.000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
