Eni publishes the Eni for 2019 sustainability report

The document confirms the Company's commitment to favoring an equitable energy transition, telling the bases laid towards the strategic objectives for 2050

Eni today publishes Eni for - A just transition 2019, its sustainability report, which illustrates the most recent results of the transformation started by the company in the last 6 years, and its commitments contained in the Long Term Strategic Plan to 2050, which combines sustainability economic-financial, environmental and social.

“The historical moment we are going through is putting complex challenges on our path, but we are convinced that new opportunities can arise from the difficulties. The commitments we have made to carry out the transformation process are even stronger today, as well as our determination to combat climate change and our effort for a fair energy transition, which takes into account all the factors involved: from the need to reduce the carbon footprint in the direction of the Paris Agreement to the need for global community development, "said Claudio Descalzi, Eni CEO.

In recent years, Eni has carried out a transformation that, through a new business model and a new mission inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, has created a simpler, faster and more resilient energy company, capable of integrating sustainability in every business.

The 14th Eni for sustainability report describes this path, starting from the results of 2019 and describing the objectives for the coming years, following the three priority areas of its business model: long-term carbon neutrality, a model for operational excellence and alliances for local development.

Eni for includes, for the third consecutive year, a document entirely dedicated to the long-term path of carbon neutrality, built following the recommendations of the Task force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure (TCFD), of which Eni has been a member since its foundation . The commitment to progressive decarbonisation is a central element in the energy transition process started by Eni, which plans to achieve a significant reduction in the carbon footprint due to the effect of actions on the entire business portfolio. The new strategy aims to eliminate net GHG scope 2040 + scope 1 emissions by 2 and to achieve an 2050% reduction in GHG net emissions by 80 over the entire life cycle of energy products (including scope 1, scope emissions 2 and scope 3), beyond the 70% threshold indicated by the International Energy Agency in the Sustainable Development Scenario (SDS), compatible with the objectives of the Paris Agreement.

The model for operational excellence describes Eni's ongoing commitment to promoting people, safeguarding their health and safety, and protecting the environment. People's skills play a key role in the transformation of the company, and for this reason Eni invested 2019 million euros in training in 33,4, increasing the hours dedicated to this activity by 16,5% compared to 2018. Operational excellence means also say conducting business with the utmost attention to integrity, that is respecting and promoting human rights and always operating with transparency and integrity.

Eni for 2019 also dedicates a special section to alliances for the promotion of local development, or to close collaborations with institutions, cooperation agencies, universities, civil society organizations and local stakeholders to implement initiatives in favor of communities in the countries of presence. The interventions carried out through public-private partnerships range from the diversification of local economies to projects for access to energy, health, education, access to water and hygiene.
