San Donato Milanese (MI), 10 May 2023 – Eni publishes Eni for 2022 – A just transition, the voluntary sustainability report which describes Eni's contribution to a just transition that guarantees access to efficient and sustainable energy, sharing the social and economic benefits of the path to net zero emissions by 2050 with workers, suppliers, communities and customers in an inclusive and transparent manner.

Today more than ever it is necessary to pool resources and human capital, through a broad vision, which allows alignment on common objectives to reduce the existing gaps at a geographical level and promote global human progress”, said Claudio Descalzi, Chief Executive Officer of Eni.
On the carbon neutrality front, Eni has maintained its commitments towards net zero emissions by 2050 and confirmed all the decarbonisation objectives, anchored to solid investments. The company achieved a 17% reduction in Scope 2018, 1 and 2 emissions compared to 3, and continued to implement the necessary measures to achieve net zero emissions (scope 1 and 2) in the Upstream by 2030, investing in innovative technologies and low carbon footprint projects. With this in mind, in 2023 it launched the FPSO which will be used to start production of the Baleine project, the most important discovery ever made in the Ivory Coast and the first Scope 1 and 2 net-zero development in Africa.
In Eni's strategy, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are a fundamental reference for conducting activities in the countries of operation. The agri-business projects, for example, embody the company's approach towards a just transition, or an energy transition with a strong innovative component associated with a strong focus on the social dimension. In this sense, Eni works so that the decarbonisation process offers opportunities for the conversion of existing activities and for the development of new production chains with significant prospects in the countries in which it operates. In 2022, the first load of vegetable oil produced in Kenya was delivered to the Eni biorefinery in Gela, starting from waste and raw materials produced in degraded land, not in competition with the food chain, with important positive effects on employment and development local. The model will be replicated in other countries.
To achieve a fair transition, particular attention was paid to initiatives to facilitate access to energy and education in the countries of operation. These include projects in the Ivory Coast, Mozambique and Ghana to facilitate access to efficient cooking methods and tools. In particular, over 20.000 improved stoves were distributed in the Ivory Coast in 6 months, reaching more than 100.000 people. Eni has also promoted the right to education in Congo, Ghana, Iraq, Mexico, Mozambique and Egypt, where it also inaugurated the Zohr Applied Technology School, to increase the number of young people with cutting-edge technical and professional skills in the energy and technological.
