Eni wins the West Ganal exploration block in the Kutei Basin in Indonesia

Eni (40% Operator) together with partners Pertamina (30%) and Neptune (30%), following the second “conventional oil and gas bidding round 2019” announced by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, was awarded the block exploration of West Ganal, in the deep waters of the Kutei basin, in Indonesia.

West Ganal is a new Gross Split PSC (Production Sharing Contract), which covers an area of approximately 1.129 square kilometers bordering on the PSC operated by Eni from Muara Bakau and East Sepinggan, in the Makassar strait, offshore East Kalimantan. This further assignment in the Kutei Basin consolidates Eni's strategic cooperation with Pertamina and Neptune Energy, partner of the Muara Bakau JV operating the Jangkrik field.

The block includes the discovery of Maha, characterized by gas resources in place estimated around 17 billion cubic meters of gas and further exploration potential, whose development projects and related time to market will benefit from the proximity to the Jangkrik infrastructure operated by Eni, in line with Eni's near field strategy of optimizing synergies with existing infrastructures.

This assignment further strengthens Eni's upstream business portfolio in Indonesia, in the Kutei basin of eastern Kalimantan, one of the most promising areas for hydrocarbon potential.

In May 2017, in the Muara Bakau PSC, Eni started production of the Jangkik field and already in April 2018 obtained the approval of the development plan for the Merakes discovery, located in the East Sepinggan PSCs.

This new project will further increase the availability of gas, both for the domestic market and for export, allowing the expansion of Eni in the constantly growing LNG market in Asia-Pacific.

Eni operates in Indonesia from the 2001 and currently has a broad portfolio of assets, in fourteen permits, in production and development exploration.
